      BH Bar Assoc Presents 65th Annual Supreme Court Luncheon Honoring the Justices of the Supreme Court of CA

      The Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA), in conjunction with the Beverly Hills Bar Foundation, hosts the 65th Annual Supreme Court Luncheon honoring the Justices of the Supreme Court of California on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 11:30 am, at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. All of the Court’s justices are slated to attend: Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye, who will make extended remarks about the current state of the judiciary, and Associate Justices Ming W. Chin, Carol A. Corrigan, Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, Leondra R. Kruger, Goodwin H. Liu and Joshua P. Groban. Additionally, scholarships are being presented to five economically disadvantaged, academically qualified, law students from Loyola Law School, Pepperdine University School of Law, Southwestern Law School, UCLA School of Law and USC Gould School of Law who have demonstrated a commitment to public interest efforts. The BHBA also presents awards to the winners of its annual “Rule of Law Writing Competition.” Proceeds from the event benefit the Beverly Hills Bar Foundation scholarship program.

      Scholarships recipients are Arelis Clemente of Loyola Law School; Ashley Denise Torres of Pepperdine University School of Law; Celeste A. Sanchez of Southwestern Law School; Adam Oriel Cohen of UCLA Law School; and Mirelle Raza of University of Southern California, Gould School of Law.

      In addition, Cameron Sheldon of UC Irvine School of Law receives the Grand Prize for the BHBA’s annual “Rule of Law Writing Competition” for her paper entitled, “Using 42 U.S.C. § 1985(2) to Challenge Dragnet Immigration Enforcement at State Courthouses.” Honorable Mention recipients include Danielle Kassatly of UC Davis School of Law for her paper, “The Rule of Law in the Patentability of Technology: How the Checks and Balances of the Courts in a Software Patent Suit Pathway Promote a Fair Judicial System,” and Elica Zadeh of Pepperdine University School of Law for her essay, “A Beautiful Fork in the Familiar Road: Restorative Justice as Diverting the Path of Schools to Prisons, A fresh perspective of mass incarceration and the short-comings of the criminal justice system, zeroing in on the cause of the problem, rather than the symptoms.“

      The Beverly Hills Bar Association, founded in 1931, is the fifth largest bar association in California, with nearly 5,000 members. Its mission is to serve its members, to lead the legal profession and to advocate for justice in the community. The Beverly Hills Bar Foundation (BHBF) is the charitable affiliate of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Its mission is to promote equal access to Justice through support of law-related education and community service projects, designed to educate and assist youth, adults and seniors.
