Black in Latin America - A Black History Month Presentation

      Lecture

According to best estimates, 12.5 million Africans were brought over to the Americas as slaves between 1525 and 1866.  Only 450,000 of these entered the United States.  Over 12,000,000 were forced into slavery in South America and the Caribbean.  Come learn some of their history at the Little Tokyo Branch Library on Thursday, January 16 from 2:00-3:00 pm.  This presentation, inspired by Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., will explore this alternate world of slavery not often remembered by those who live in the United States.
