      SUMMER COMES ALIVE IN DOWNTOWN LA

      Get ready to start the summer in Downtown LA with outdoor films, concerts,
      dancing, or just a little leisure time soaking up the sun – all for free

      Los Angeles, CA (June 3, 2014) - Live bands & DJs – check. Movies under the stars – check. Countless nights of free entertainment – check. A valet for your bike – check. Companions for your dog – check. And did we mention dancing? Just in time for summer, the Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) has pulled together a Summer Guide of free events happening throughout downtown that the whole family will enjoy:


      Dance Downtown at the Music Center
      Dates: Every other Friday, May 16 through September 19
      Time: 6:30-10:00pm
      Location: Music Center Plaza
      135 N. Grand Avenue

      Move and shake the night away under the starry skies with fellow Angelenos. Beginner dance lessons, live bands/DJs, and warm nights come together for the perfect way to spend your summer Friday evenings. Meet, greet, move and groove.

      Downtown Stage
      Dates: July 9 – August 17

      The Pershing Square Downtown Stage offers six weeks of free outdoor music and films, five days a week. A variety of food trucks are available for dining options. The audience is welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets to select events and kick back under the twinkling lights of Downtown LA:

      • Saturday Rock Concerts: Saturday Downtown Stage include six weeks of rock concerts on Saturday nights including The Orchestra with former members of ELO and ELO 2, When in Rome, Dread Zepplin and Missing Persons.

      • Tribute Thursdays: features LA’s best classic rock cover bands.

      • Salsa Sundays: Spice up Sunday night with Salsa Sundays with hot bands and salsa dancing.

      • Pershing Square Lunchtime Concerts: Wednesday concerts are held at lunchtime during the Pershing Square Farmers Market. Enjoy lunch, world beat sounds, jazz and country music starting at noon. The lunch music menu has something for everyone.

      Friday Night Flicks
      Dates: Now – Sept. 26
      Times: 8pm Fridays
      Location: Pershing Square

      Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or lawn chair for Friday Night Flicks including Fast and Furious 6, My Cousin Vinny and The Blues Brothers to name a few. Films are shown on a 20' foot inflatable screen and dogs are welcome if they are well behaved and kept on a leash.

      The FIGat7th Downtown Festival
      Dates: Every Friday, July 18 – August 22

      The FIGat7th Downtown Festival returns for its second year this summer every Friday night. The free non-ticketed outdoor concerts feature performances by leading pop, rock, jazz, soul and alternative artists. The weekly concerts kick-off on July 18 with Jonathan Wilson with opener Mystic Braves. Other headliners include Fool’s Gold, The Belle Brigade, Las Cafeteras, Gardens & Villa, and The Internet.

      Grand Park Summer

      “The Park for Everyone” lives up to its name this summer. Stop by the new Grand Park to soak up the sun, experience soaring beats from LA’s best DJ’s, practice yoga or relax and grab a bite from a food truck. Dogs are welcome to enjoy the dog park. The park stretches across four city blocks between The Music Center and City Hall.

      Grand Performances celebrates their 28th season this summer. The summer concert series line-up is chock full of fan favorites and few of their new musical obsessions. Seating is first come, first-served. Be sure to attend a “Pedal Pushers” night to take advantage of the free bike valet.
