      LA Lone Scouts Double MB: The ART & MUSIC of MINIMALISM with the LA Philharmonic

      This is a 6-hour day where Scouts from any council/troop can complete all the requirements for TWO merit badges in ONE Day with the LA Lone Scouts as they explore the vibrancy and rhythmic hues within the Art & Music of Minimalism in downtown Los Angeles. (A) MUSIC Merit Badge - we will be completing the requirements - Req #1, #2, #3a, #3d, #4a and #5 - with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphonies for Youth at the Walt Disney Concert Hall as written at https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Music  MINIMALISM - Sat Jan 19 The LA Philharmonic will gleam with the vibrant patterns, shifting phases, and steady rhythms of Minimalism in Music by John Adams and Philip Glass. Sometimes less is more, as we hear in the slowly changing repetition of chords building and breaking. (B) ART Merit Badge - we will be discussing specific art with a MOCA educator during a private tour of the museum’s permanent collection before we create our own art per the requirements as written at https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Art —————— FOR WHOM: This is open to ANY Scout from ANY Troop/District/Council. Family members who wish to join the Scout inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall AND inside the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) must purchase a ticket/spot in the Program.  AGENDA:10:00 AM - 10:45 AM: Interactive Arts Workshops in Music, Dance and Craft aligned to the concert theme will be available for all concert-ticket-holders to participate.11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: The Concert by the LA Philharmonic.(There is no intermission). 12:15 PM - 1:30 PM:  Music Merit Badge Requirements - to be held at the Blue Rose Garden. https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Music 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM:   Guided Tour of the MOCA on Grand. 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM:   Art Merit Badge Requirements - to be held in the area. https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Art   NOTES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: 1) Everyone (adult or student/scout) is required to have a ticket to enter the Walt Disney Concert Hall for the LA Philharmonic Performance, regardless of age or Scout affiliation.   2) Everyone (adult or student/scout) is also required to have a ticket to enter the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) for the guided Tour, regardless of age or scout affiliation. 3) Scouts should DRESS for the occasion - concert performance + touring an art museum + creating art - AND BRING their signed blue card(s), and worksheets/sketchbooks + pencils/pens. What are Lone Scouts? Is this class in Mandarin/Chinese? NO - the class is held in English. There are no language requirements to participate. This class is OPEN to ALL Boys and Girls who are at least 11-years old, regardless of race, national origin, or scout affiliation.   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Parking starts at $9.00 per vehicle within a 2-mile radius of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. If taking the Metro, please disembark at the Civic Center/Grand Park station. Travel from wherever you are and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles is your responsibility. What can I bring into the event? Scouts are to bring their LA Philharmonic TICKET valid for Jan-19 performance (sent to their parent's email address 2-weeks prior) along with their signed blue card and a pen/pencil for the Music Merit Badge Program + signed blue card and sketchbook for the Art Merit Badge Program. Scouts can use the Art merit badge worksheet https://meritbadge.org/wiki/images/9/9f/Art.pdf  in lieu of a sketchbook. Scouts should dress for the weather, the occasion and the activities planned. Anyone with the LA Philharmonic Ticket valid for the Jan-19 performance will be admitted into the Walt Disney Concert Hall for the performance on the date of. There are NO REFUNDS. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Anyone with the LA Philharmonic Ticket valid for the Jan-19 performance will be admitted into the Walt Disney Concert Hall for the performance on the date of. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS.
