      Lobbying Rules for Nonprofits Workshop

Nonprofits can and should advocate and lobby for policy change! It is legally permissible for 501(c)(3) public charities to lobby as long as they remain within their annual lobbying limits under federal tax law. Some, but not all, of an organization's activities to influence federal, state and local policies will be considered lobbying, so it is important for organizations to learn how to distinguish between lobbying and non-lobbying activities. This workshop will explain federal tax laws governing 501(c)(3) lobbying activity, including how to calculate a public charity's annual lobbying limits, and what activities will qualify as lobbying.
