The Queen Mary is Long Beach's most treasured cultural attraction. After being ordered in 1929, the vessel was launched on September 26, 1934. It served as a troopship during WWII and was subsequently commissioned a transatlantic passenger vessel. After three decades as a fully operational vessel, the Queen Mary was decommissioned and retired in 1967. It has been permanently docked in Long Beach ever since and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Since 1971, the Queen Mary has been a top tourist attraction in Long Beach. It annually hosts several events including conventions, musical performances, and a halloween festival.
