Jerry Edling is a writer and editor for KNX, the only all-news radio station in Los Angeles, and a former editor-in-chief of ""Public Diplomacy Magazine." He has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and five Writers Guild Awards and has won three Associated Press Awards and two Golden Mike Awards. He holds a Master of Public Diplomacy degree from the University of Southern California. He has spoken to the Berlin International Freedom of Expression Forum, the National Space Society and the World Future Society. Speaking Topics: News in a Network Society: It’s no secret that there have been paradigm-shifting changes in media in the last 30 years. Some of them have been life-enhancing, while others have arguably jeopardized the quality of national and international discourse. Are the media to blame? Or are there deeper forces at work that are transforming the social landscape? This is a media professional’s perspective on how communities are being reorganized and how the media should respond to those new communities. Ideal for civic organizations and corporate events, especially technology-oriented companies. The Year of Earth and Space (YES): More than six decades ago, at the advent of the space race, the International Geophysical Year (IGY) became a groundbreaking template for international cooperation in studying Earth and its environs. The first artificial satellites were launched during the IGY, and its achievements included the discover of the Van Allen radiation belts. Today, at the advent of the space economy, is it time for a new international effort to study an increasingly fragile planet?  The Year of Earth and Space (YES) would harness the energy and intellects of technology companies, entrepreneurs and governments to integrate the push for interplanetary missions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and show that space exploration and earthly concerns are not a zero-sum game. Ideal for civic organizations and Silicon Beach companies. A Father’s Day Gift: What’s it like to lose a father to a hereditary kidney disease when he was 48 years old? This first-person account is a profile in courage of a man whose career at one of the largest companies in the world was cut short by an illness and who worked as long as he was physically able. As comedians say, it’s all in the timing. Had he contracted the disease years later, his life could have been prolonged by dialysis or a kidney transplant. Today, millions of lives could be prolonged if more people would become organ donors. But comparatively few people make that commitment, arguably because of rampant misinformation. Ideal for medical centers seeking an outreach to patients and prospective donors, donor organizations and civic groups. Availability: Available for luncheon events any day and weeknight events with one month notice.
